Multi-day Tasmania Tours Compared

Five multi-day Tasmania tours from Hobart, day by day: which visit Port Arthur, what of it they include (entry, harbour cruise, ghost tour), prices and who each suits.

Updated November 2026

Of the five multi-day tours from Hobart carded here, three include the Port Arthur Historic Site and two do not go near it. Under Down Under Tours’ 7-day circuit ends with a day on the Tasman Peninsula, with the site entry and its harbour cruise included; Tassie Tours Tasmania’s 2- and 3-day packages each give Port Arthur a whole day with the same entry and cruise. Under Down Under’s 5-day circuit and Wild Tasmania Tours’ 4-day lap leave the peninsula out. None of them includes the ghost tour. The 7 days are Tasmania: 7-Day West to East Tour, from US$1,121 a person (checked November 2026).

The short answer

If you want all of Tasmania and Port Arthur in one booking, without a car, the 7-day circuit is the only one of these that does both: six days around the island, then the last day at Port Arthur. If you are basing yourself in Hobart, the 2-day package (Bruny Island, then Port Arthur) or the 3-day one (a Hobart day as well) gives Port Arthur a full day and brings you back to Hobart each night. If you book the 5-day circuit or the 4-day lap, Port Arthur is a separate day trip, before or after.

Under Down Under Tours: 7 days, west to east, ending at Port Arthur

The 7-day circuit is Under Down Under Tours’ 5-day route with two days added at the end. Day by day:

  1. Mount Field National Park and Russell Falls, Lake St Clair, the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park and Queenstown, then Strahan for two nights.
  2. The west coast: rainforest and waterfalls, the Henty Sand Dunes and Ocean Beach, or a Gordon River cruise at your own cost.
  3. Cradle Mountain, with a walk of your choice from the Dove Lake circuit to Marions Lookout, then Sheffield and Launceston.
  4. Cataract Gorge in Launceston, then the Bay of Fires on the east coast.
  5. Freycinet National Park: the walk to Wineglass Bay or the steeper climb of Mount Amos, and the Cape Tourville lighthouse.
  6. Back to Hobart: Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, Richmond and kunanyi/Mount Wellington.
  7. The Tasman Peninsula: the Port Arthur Historic Site, then a walk to Crescent Bay before the return to Hobart.

What it includes at Port Arthur: the Historic Site entry and the harbour cruise, both among the inclusions, on the last day. No length is given for the time at the site; the same day also holds the Crescent Bay walk, so expect less time there than on a day tour that does nothing else. Six nights in cabins and motels, national park entry and Bonorong are included; food and drinks are not. It is not suitable for children under 8 or people with mobility impairments, and cancellation is free up to 14 days before. Under Down Under calls it Super 7 on its own site, where it departs on Thursdays from October to April and Saturdays from October to May, from A$1,595 a person in a shared room (November 2026). On the same site it sells two Comfort tours that also end at Port Arthur with the entry and harbour cruise, a 6-day Tasmanian Discovery and a 10-day Ultimate Tasmania; neither is on GetYourGuide or Viator.

Under Down Under Tours: 5 days, west and east coast (no Port Arthur)

The 5-day circuit is the same west-to-east route without the last two days: Mount Field, Lake St Clair and Strahan; a west coast day; Cradle Mountain and Launceston; Cataract Gorge, the Bay of Fires and a night in St Helens; then Bicheno and Freycinet on the way back to Hobart. It has 4 nights in motels and cabins, groups of up to 24, national park fees included and meals self-catered. It does not go to the Tasman Peninsula, so Port Arthur would be a day trip of its own from Hobart. Under Down Under sells it as Famous 5 on its own site, from A$1,095 a person in a shared room (November 2026). Under Down Under’s 5-day tour is also on Viator, as the 5-day Best of Tasmania tour, from US$823 (checked November 2026). On Viator all sales are final; on GetYourGuide cancellation is free up to 14 days before.

Wild Tasmania Tours: 4 days (no Port Arthur)

The 4-day lap, in a group of up to 13, runs Hobart to Hobart: Mount Field, the Franklin River and Queenstown to a lakeside stay on the west coast; Cradle Mountain and a night in bush cabins; the Bay of Fires and a devil feeding on the way to a night in Bicheno; then Wineglass Bay in Freycinet and the Great Eastern Drive back to Hobart. Accommodation, park passes, one dinner and one breakfast are included; on its own site it is from A$1,045 a person (November 2026). Port Arthur is not on it. The same 4 days are on Viator: see the 4-day lap on Viator, from US$746 (checked November 2026).

Tassie Tours Tasmania: 2 days, Bruny Island and Port Arthur

The 2-day package joins two of the operator’s day tours from Hobart. One day is Bruny Island, with the ferry and the national parks pass. The other is its Port Arthur day: the Pirates Bay lookout, the Dog Line at Eaglehawk Neck, a chocolate foundry and the lavender farm, then the Historic Site with the entry and the 20-minute harbour cruise included. You can stay the full 4 hours at the site, or take the bus after 3 hours to Remarkable Cave, 115 steps down to a viewing platform. The bus is back in Hobart at about 5:30 pm. Accommodation and food are not included, so you sleep in Hobart both nights. On the operator’s own site the package starts on Thursdays and Sundays, from A$310 (November 2026). It is on Viator too, as the 2-day highlights tour, from US$221 (checked November 2026). bruny-island-tour.com covers the Bruny Island day in depth.

Tassie Tours Tasmania: 3 days, Hobart, Bruny Island and Port Arthur

The 3-day package adds a Hobart day to the same pair: kunanyi/Mount Wellington, Bonorong, Richmond, a city tour and, on Saturdays, Salamanca Market. The Hobart day runs on fixed weekdays (Saturdays and Tuesdays, on the operator’s site), so the other two days move around it. The Port Arthur day includes the site entry and the 20-minute harbour cruise, 9:30 am to about 5:30 pm. On the operator’s own site the package starts on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from A$465, with accommodation not included (November 2026). It is also on Viator as the 3-day tour on Viator, from US$335 (checked November 2026). It is not suitable for children under 4.

What none of them includes: the ghost tour

The Port Arthur Historic Site runs its own lantern-lit ghost tour in the evening, Wednesday to Sunday, and no tour on this page stays late enough for it: every Port Arthur day here heads back to Hobart in the afternoon. To join it you need your own car or a night on the Tasman Peninsula. The Port Arthur ghost tour has the times and prices.

Adding Port Arthur to a circuit that skips it

If you book the 5-day circuit or the 4-day lap, add Port Arthur as a day trip from Hobart on the day before you start or the day after you finish. Tassie Tours Tasmania’s Port Arthur, Tasman Sights and Harbour Cruise leaves central Hobart at 9:30 am and is back about 5:30 pm, with the site entry and harbour cruise included, from US$109 (checked November 2026).
